Overlord’s Landscapes

Operation Overlord, launched on June 6, 1944, was the largest amphibious invasion in history and a pivotal moment in World War I. The invasion, commonly known as D-Day, targeted the beaches of Normandy in northwestern France.

This project explores various locations associated with the Battle of Normandy. Al the pictures were shot on film, with most of them taken using a 4×5 camera, applying the unique blur characteristic of this type of camera.

The face of a chameleon is painted on the remains of a Nazi bunker, part of the Atlantic Wall, on Utah Beach near Sainte-Mère-Église.

Barbed wire is seen in front of cliffs surrounding Pointe du Hoc were the location of a series of German bunkers and machine gun posts.

A map displays the movements made by Allied troops during D-Day and Operation Overlord at the American Cemetery near Omaha Beach.

Aparachutist named John Steele was stuck at the bel tower of the Church of Sainte-Mere-Eglise on the night of the 5th and 6th of June 1944. A sculpture is placed on the bell tower to honor him.
